TALKING BOOKS

This partnership dates back to 1960, when the Telephone Pioneers were designated the official talking book repair group for the Library of Congress. Since then, Pioneers have repaired some 2 million of the special cassette and record players used by the visually impaired to listen to material they cannot read.

Campbell’s – Labels for Education UPC’s

Please note that the front panel products labels for Campbell’s products are NO LONGER ELIGIBLE.  They are only requiring that you cut the “Labels for Education” UPC from the label.  The UPC’s are on most Campbell’s products including soups, Goldfish crackers, Market Day, Swanson products and boxed products too.  In addition, they are collecting lids from V8, V8 Splash, and Prego.

These are used to purchase “special needs” equipment at various schools.

You can send in the US Mail to:              or intra-company to:

911 SIMULATOR

Emergency! Do your children know how to respond in an emergency and get help to the door? The program offers a demonstration on what a call to 911           would involve and what the kids should be prepared to know. If you would like a demonstration at your next Boy Scout, Girl Scout, Church or school assembly, let us know by sending us an e-mail at: info@verizonfortpittpioneers.org.

The 911 Simulator program was developed by Pioneers to teach children how to phone for help in an emergency, duplicating the exact process experienced during a real 911 call.

PLAYGROUND MAPS

Pioneers across America paint large playground size maps of the United States in beautiful colors. They are educational as well as fun.  If you would be interested in a map in your area, please call email us at: info@verizonfortpittpioneers.org. We’ll be happy to direct you to the appropriate Pioneer chapter coordinator. ____________________________________________________________________________

CALLING ALL ANIMAL LOVERS

The Fort Pitt Pioneer Chapter has partnered with the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium to do a Stingray Touch Tank.  It is a petting tank that holds several different species of Stingrays.  There is a PowerPoint program that runs continuously explaining about the various species of Stingrays that are in the tank.

The exhibit is open 7 days a week 10-6.  Our goal is to have the tanked manned by Pioneer volunteers and Zoo docents on a continual basis.  The shifts run 10-6 Sunday through Saturday in 2-hour increments.

We need volunteers for all shifts.  You would be watching over the petting tank, talking to people about the animals and making sure the animals are kept safe.

If anyone is interested please contact me either by email or phone.  My email is qwert1@bellatlantic.net and my phone is (724) 535-3500

Thanks for all your help.                                                                                              Kim Scranton  ____________________________________________________________________________
